How to Take CBD Oil

You’ve bought your first bottle of CBD oil…Now what? How do you take it? Are some ways of taking it better than others? Can you take too much? Can you get creative and mix it with a smoothie or use it in cooking?

Luckily, there is no one single method of taking your CBD oil, or a “one-size-fits-all” dosage. If you follow a few basic and simple rules, you can really let your imagination run free, and get creative with how you take your CBD oil.

HOW TO TAKE CBD OIL: THE BASICS

DOSING & FREQUENCY

As with any type of plant-based or natural medicine, dosing is probably the most challenging and confusing aspect of taking CBD. Because everyone’s body is different, we react differently to CBD. It also means that dosage is a very personal thing, and the so-called “right” amount is different for each of us.

How much CBD you should be taking also depends on the type of CBD oil itself. Different CBD oils have different concentrations, raw ingredients, and sources of CBD. The dosing for a broad-spectrum hemp CBD oil can be slightly different than that of a CBD oil made up from a carrier oil with CBD isolate added to it.

So, bearing all of this in mind, a “standard” dose is often considered to be 25 mg of CBD taken twice daily. You can use this as a rough guideline to decide how much to start off on. It is then recommended to slowly increase your intake by an extra 25 mg/day every three to four weeks until you find the amount that works best for you.

RAW VS CARBOXYLATED

When starting to experiment with different ways in which to take your CBD oil, it’s important to keep in mind that heat can change the makeup of your CBD, or even make it evaporate.

Generally speaking, you can get either raw or decarboxylated CBD. If the CBD oil is labeled as “raw”, that means that the CBD oil did not go through the usual curing and heating processes that cause cannabinoid acids (CBDa) to transform into their hydrocarbonated form (CBD).

So, if you have specifically chosen to go with CBDa and are looking to preserve the benefits found in raw CBD extracts, it might not be a good idea to use those with any heat. Similarly, even though most CBD oils like the ones available from Geovana have been decarboxylated, it is still not a good idea to apply temperatures over 180 or 350℉, as too much heat can evaporate or destroy the beneficial compounds.

HOW TO TAKE CBD OIL: THE METHODS

SUBLINGUALLY

Taking your CBD Oil sublingually basically means that you put it under your tongue. This allows the CBD compounds to be absorbed directly into your bloodstream through the capillaries in the mucous membranes of your mouth. Anything that is not absorbed is then swallowed and allowed to digest slowly.

Sublingual delivery is often considered to be one of the fastest, most effective, and long-lasting ways of taking CBD, providing both immediate relief and long-lasting benefits.

To take your CBD oil sublingually, put the desired amount of drops under your tongue and hold it there for up to 90 seconds so that the mucous membranes can absorb the maximum amount of cannabinoids, helping the compounds reach the bloodstream. This allows the CBD to interact directly with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) within minutes.

INGESTION

Because swallowing is such a natural part of our makeup and most of us can swallow without difficulty, this is by far the easiest method to deliver a dose of CBD. Ingestion may also be a preferred method for individuals who are new to CBD and are not used to the taste.

If you don’t like the taste of CBD, a capsule product may be best for you, or you can try mixing your CBD oil with something pleasant tasting. Mixing the CBD oil with a food or drink is also a wonderful way to mask that hemp-y flavor that some people find off-putting.

Just like vitamins and other nutrients, when CBD oil is swallowed, the concentrated oil passes through the digestive system, and metabolizes in the liver. From there it then enters into the bloodstream where it starts to interact with the endocannabinoid system.

TOPICALLY

CBD oil is often added to lotions, creams or salves for topical application, directly to the skin. This is a great way to get localized relief because the CBD works directly on the uppermost layer of skin cells. When applying your CBD oil topically, you can gently but firmly massage it into your skin until all the product is absorbed.

When applying your CBD oil topically, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. It is important to remember to apply it to clean skin, free from other products. This will allow for the CBD oil to penetrate the skin properly. Also, apply your CBD oil after you’ve had a bath or shower as water will simply wash it off and, for the same reason, avoid doing any strenuous activity that will cause you to sweat excessively after application.

HOW TO TAKE CBD OIL: THE IDEAS

Now that we’ve covered the basics of CBD oil dosing, and the different ways in which you can choose to take it, let’s get creative and look at some ideas on how to incorporate your CBD oil in your everyday life and routine.

CBD-INFUSED OLIVE OIL

As mentioned before, one of the easiest ways to get your daily dose of CBD, especially if you are using it for general health and wellness reasons, is to ingest it. What better way than to make your own CBD-infused olive oil? Use it in your salad dressing or add to to your next batch of pesto.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 15 – 20 ml of Geovana CBD oil
  • 250 ml of cold-pressed, extra virgin olive oil

Mix together and store in a glass bottle, away from heat, moisture or sunlight.

CBD-INFUSED SMOOTHIES

Starting your day off with a CBD oil infused smoothie for breakfast is a great idea for a healthy and balanced start to your day! And, because CBD is non-psychoactive, you can feel energized, focused, and awake without the euphoric “high” you get with other types of cannabis products.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 dose of Geovana CBD oil (usually 1 dropper, check serving size in bottle)
  • 1 banana
  • ¾ cup frozen blueberries
  • cup rolled oats
  • 6 ounces of Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup of oat or almond milk
  • 3 ice cubes

Grind rolled oats in a blender until fine. Add the rest of the ingredients and blend on high till smooth.

CBD-INFUSED CHAI TEA

Another delicious way to enjoy your CBD oil is in a nutritious and invigorating Chai Tea. Enjoy it warm on a cold, winter’s day, or cool it down and add in a few ice cubes for a refreshing summertime drink.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 dose of Geovana CBD oil (usually 1 dropper, check serving size in bottle)
  • 1 cup coconut or almond milk
  • 2 tbsp of cocoa powder
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 1-2 drops vanilla extract
  • sweetener (e.g. Stevia) to taste

Gently bring milk, cocoa and spices to a boil and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Pour into a mug and let it cool slightly. Add a natural sweetener like honey and your Geovana CBD oil drops. Stir and enjoy!

FINAL THOUGHTS:

There are so many ways in which you can get your healthy, balancing daily dose of CBD. Dropping a few drops of your CBD oil under your tongue helps you to absorb your CBD quickly for fast, effective relief. Add a dose of CBD oil to your morning smoothie or tea as an easy way to incorporate it into your daily routine, or to mask the taste. Or use CBD infused-lotions and creams for localized relief from muscle cramps or acne.

Keep the few basic rules we outlined here in mind when taking your CBD oil and you will be ready to experience all the nutritional and health benefits that CBD can bring!
